I just love a new challenge

Good Morning everyone,

I've taken up a new challenge for 2013.  I've joined Amy at The Crafty Book Nerd; in her Mystery/Crime
reading Challenge.  I don't figure I'll obtain any of the higher ranks - but I do promise - I'll read at least one book a month.

Knowing Genghis our read selections will have to have a cat - so I'm figuring on starting with the Cat Who series by Lilian Jackson Braun.

If any one knows of any other good cat detectives please let me know

Anyone else willing to take up the challenge?   Do join us if this sounds like fun to you.

Wishing you a safe and Happy New Years Eve.

Hugs,
Penny

Happy 4th of July

Hello evfurryone,

Not much happening around here worth writing about.

The weather is hot and very humid - but we've had very little rain.  It always seems to go north or south of us. The farmers are worried about their crop and I'm worried about my my ever diminishing  grass supply.
Pellie and Sir Knight are a bit worried about it also but they only water the garden in an effort to conserve water. Most of our neighbors haven't watered either - so I have to roam farther and farther to find a tasty little morsel to chomp on.(This positive statement added after my reprimand)  The good news is my nip is growing good.

Pellie has been sick and on medicine - again - so all she wants to do is sleep.  What fun is that?
(This one too) Well I do get to sleep with on her so that is good.

Pellie just told me that if I couldn't find any thing nice to say and stop complaining -she won't let me back on any time soon.  So I guess I best say good bye for now.

Oh!!!!! I almost forgot.

Happy 4th of July to each and evfurry one of you..

Genghis

Happy International Clothes Line Week

Hello everyone,

Wow - have I been busy lately!  Haven't even had time to turn the computer on much less post and visit.

I do apologize for the not visiting - hope to get back to a bit more normal routine soon.

This is International Clothes Line Week - so I hope to entise a few of you to clean up those old clothes poles in your back yard and start saving a few pennies by drying your clothes out on the line. They smell sooooo good - especially the sheets and pillowcases.

.

Hope you all have a great week,

Be Back Soon.  I hope

Saturday Celebrations

Hello  dear friends,

How are you this fine Saturday morning?

We were up at the crack of dawn to begin our celebration of three important occasions that call today "their day".

The first is National Hug Your Cat Day.  Of course Genghis is always Happy to receive lots of hugs.
He feels that everyday should be Hug Your Cat Day - maybe he's right.

Today is also Fibromyalgia Awareness Day and even if you can't see it very well - I am wearing purple for the cause in the very first picture.    Please join us.

Last but certainly not least - Today is International Nurses Day.  Here in the US we start Nurses Week off with our Nurses Day on May 6th - but the rest of the world caps off the week long Celebration on Florence Nightingale's Birthday with Nurses day.
So to all my Nurse friends, family members, co-worker and all you fellow nurses I have never met- I wish you a wonderful Nurses Day.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

Hugs,
Penny

Roses in Bloom

"Won’t you come into my garden?  I would like my roses to see you."  -  Richard B. Sheridan

Good morning everyone,

The weather man assured us that today would be bright and sunny - yet as I sit here at my computer I hear the roll of thunder. Maybe it will roll on by.

"A profusion of pink roses bending ragged in the rain speaks to me of all gentleness and its enduring".
 - William Cullen Bryant

I showed you this little garden spot a few days ago - but since that picture was taken - the roses have started to bloom and I wanted to share them with you.  Beautiful aren't they?

"One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living.  We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon  - instead of enjoying the roses blooming right outside our window today.” - Dale Carnegie

We seem to be keeping ourselves very busy lately.   Sir Knight continues to work on our New Vegetable garden, every evening when he comes home from work.  Me;  I work on keeping all the rest of the landscaping free of weeds.  The front yard is easy - but the back  - oh the back - it is surely cursed.  I can hardly keep up with the Binder Weed much less get ahead of it.

Our Peonies have buds and will flower soon - hopefully I will be able to get a picture or two before the rain knocks all the petals of.  What usually happens is;  they bloom on the worse raining day we have and the petals fall off before we can even enjoy them.  And the rain is due tomorrow.again. Sigh!!!!

I hope you have a great day.

Hugs,
Penny

Looking Back

Hello everyone.

It was 67 years ago today ( Tuesday May 8, 1945)  that VE-Day (Victory -in-Europe Day) was announced to mark the end of World War II in Europe.

Families gathered together around their radio's to listen to Prime Minister Winston Churchill and /or President Harry S Truman making their speech announcing the fall of Germany and The Third Reich.  Relieved nations of  people sang danced and marched around towns celebrating.

Sadly, the war was not over for everyone, The war with Japan did not end till August 15th, so many men were still risking their lives abroad.

VE-Day and VJ-Day  may have gotten pushed from our memories as we now just celebrate Veterans Day but least we forget  -   lets pause a moment  and reflect.

"War does not determine who is right - only who is left"
-Burtrand Russell

“When greed sups with the devil
And principles are shed
When power is corrupted
And truth stands on its head
When fear pervades the confused mind
And fools are easy led
When reason is a prisoner
The bell tolls for the dead.”
Tom Walker

“Mankind must put an end to war,
or war will put an end to mankind."
-John F. Kennedy

Mancat Monday

Hello evfurryone,

I hope you had as great a weekend as I did.

Pellie and Sir Knight spent most of the weekend at home with me -that made me a very happy camper.

Sir Knight finally started working on the new garden makeover and while it's not any where near ready to put the plants in yet, I heard him tell Pellie it will be finished by Mothers Day.  That's his favorite time to plant.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I can almost smell the catnip now.

I hope everyone has a super great week.

Tantalizing Thursday

Good morning everyone,

I hope this little post finds you all feeling refreshed and less grumpy.  But wait the fun doesn't stop with yesterdays post.  Oh no!  Today we are celebrating National Two Different Colored Shoes Day

Grab those two different colored shoes and join us in the celebration.  It's  guaranteed to make you feel like a child again, and who doesn't need that once in awhile?

Today is also designated as Garden Meditation Day

While my sweet little girl statue like to meditate among the roses

And my fairy kitty dreams happily among the shrubs by the porch,

I prefer to do my meditation on my cozy porch - where I can stay dry from today's rainy weather.

Where do you like to do your garden mediation?

At the Last auction I went to I happened to get these two super cute perfume bottles for a grand total of $1.50.  The one with the heart stopper is a newer bottle, as it has a plastic piece on the stopper to make it fit tighter in the bottle.  The other one is a more vintage piece and has its share of war wounds to prove it.  But I fell in love with it and just had to have it.   Hopefully Sir Knight will be able to file the broken top tip of the stopper so it looks better and  is safer to handle.

Here is a shot of my dresser and the rest of my perfume bottle collection.

A close up of just the perfume bottle collection.  All of them are empty of course except the real tiny bottle of Victoria perfume, Boucheron and L'Air du Temps.  The Boucheron and L'Air du Temps are my signature fragrances for a night out of dining and dancing.   I also have a couple Bath &Body Shop fragrances the one is Chocolate Amber (a now discontinued fragrance - so I use it very sparingly) and the other is their Sleep inducing fragrance for those nights that  insomnia tries to get the better of me.

Oh me how time flies when your having fun.  I really must do some house work today.  But it will have to wait - as I'm off to visit with all of you.

Hugs,
Penny

Great American Grump Out

Hello evfurryone,
I know it's suppose to be wordless Wednesday - But ----- I just had to say a word or two about the Grump Out.

The 11th annual
    GREAT AMERICAN GRUMP OUT
                 Wednesday, May 2, 2012.

The Grump Out asks all you sour pusses to suck it up and refrain from getting your grump on -- at least for 24 hours.

That includes no grumping, no frowning, no grousing, complaining, punching, slapping, hitting or killing. FOR ONE WHOLE DAY

Grump Out goals:
  1. To help people better understand the connection between negative attitudes, stress and health.
  2. To see America give themselves permission to be friendly, playful, supportive and loving for just one day. (You guys & girls in other countries can do it too you know.)
  3. To lighten up our planet and reduce unhealthy stress through humor.
  4. To have FUN!

Spread the word to all your humans! Facebook it, Twitter it, MySpace it, Blog it, Email it, and Share it with your friends...especially your grumpy friends.

Less Grumpy = less Stress & better Health

I'm trying to be less grumpy today, myself.

Genghis

O, and then did I unto my true love say,

Sweet Peg, thou shalt be my Summer's Queen.

Hugs,

P.S.  Our weather isn't typical  May weather - but what the heck,  let's  party round the May Pole.

Wordless Tuesday & Wednesday

caught

Hello evfurryone,

Yes I know I shouldn't be on the table - but Pellie will never know.; she has been glued to the computer for some time now.  In between curses and other things I wont tell you about - I figured out she is trying to learn the New Blogger format.  I don't think she is having much luck with it either. She said it all has to be changed by the end of the month.
Yeah! Well good Luck with that Pellie!!!!!

Are you done yet Pellie?  -  It's been hours!  I really want to play with you.

Yep just as I thought today is a repeat of yesterday!  SIGH!!!!

Hope she gets the hang of this soon.

I sure hope you are having a better week.

Happy

Hello everyone,

Good Morning and the best of wishes for the first official day of Spring.

Over the weekend our weather was stunning, the sun was shining and the temperature was in the 80's - Today is not so nice. It is overcast - threatening to rain at any minute and a chilly temp in the 60's.

But then again it is still March - so we have to be ready for anything.

Since it was so nice over the weekend Sir Knight and I head out and about to do a little shopping and lots of browsing. Of course we just had to stop by the Goodwill and was so happy we did.
Because I happened upon something I didn't even know I needed. (Isn't that always the way, though.)

Let me explain. In the north half of my craft is a ceiling fan. I haven't found a chandelier to replace it yet - so there it stays. I hate fans of any sort - that air blowing on me is hard on my old joints. But since most of my time is spent in the south half of the craft room - I tolerate it.
It has been kind of a love hate relation between me and that fan, and besides I can control whether the fan is turned on or not. What I couldn't stand were the rather ugly shades on the lights. Very utilitarian and did I mention they were rather ugly.

Here they are in all their glory.

See what I mean. What has prevented me from buying something new, you ask? Well, nothing except I'm really kind of cheap and hate to spend the kind of money I was seeing on the ones at Menard's and Lowe's.

Oh my, but just look what I found at the Goodwill and for only $1.38 each. now that is more my price range.

They are frosted on top and have more of a flower shape. And the funny part is that using the same watt bulb - they seem to give off a heck of a lot more light than those ugly ones did.

I am such a happy camper with my new thrift store purchase - So very glad their previous owner tired of them.

So happy I didn't even mind stopping to pick up the Catnip seeds for Genghis; which made him a very happy camper.

So around here despite the weather; we are: Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy.

I best run off and get a few things done today.

Once again Happy Spring to all of you.

Hugs,
Penny/Pellie

Victory Dreams

Hello evfurryone,

Did you see that first picture. Yep! Catnip seeds. Pellie and Sir Knight brought these home from their weekend shopping spree. (they bought other things too, but this was all I was interested in.)

All my pouting and protesting paid off. Cat's Rule.

Now I can rest easy knowing that our new garden will be complete.

I Hope all of you have a super terrific week.

Genghis

Grumpy on Mancat Monday

Hello evfurryone.

We got more of that icky cold white stuff this weekend - and Pellie took to her bed for a little while in pain - which left me and Sir Knight with the dilemma of what to do and still be quiet.

Then it came to us - it was time to think about the Spring Garden. We decided that this year we would enlarge it - so we could increase our harvest potential.

We knew what we wanted to plant - so it was just a matter of getting it all down in black and white.

Mary, Mary - how does your garden grow? Ours will have beets and leeks, as well as tomatoes, banana peppers and bell peppers, with a few herbs thrown in for good measure.

We will be doubling the size of the garden -so Pellie demanded a walk in the center so she wouldn't have to climb into the garden when it comes time to weed or harvest. So that gave us room for the herb garden. They really like this plan and can't wait for Spring to sprung so we can get busy.

Oh, In case your wondering why - why I'm looking so grumpy in the first picture. Do you see any catnip seeds - or is it included in the plans. Noooooooooooooo. and I was very clear to Sir Knight the there must be Catnip.

I guess I'm going to have to give him the cold shoulder for a while till he gets the picture that I'm upset about that lack of catnip.

I'm off to my favorite sulking spot - for a nap.

Genghis

Mancat Monday - Cat-in-a-box

Hello, evfurryone,

Sir Knight brought this big heavy box home - and of course I had to see if it was safe to have around the house.

It's a good size for a bit of a nap.

Offers plenty of room to spread out and watch what Pellie is doing on the top of it.

Were you expecting me to jump up and down in here? Sorry to disappoint you - but this is as active as I get today.

I'm keeping my eye on Pellie as she works with this thing - she says it's a light box. Whatever!!! It looks pretty heavy to me.

Thanks for coming by.

Well it's nap time for me - so I best toddle off to somewhere quiet.

Purrs,
Genghis
